Speech and language therapy services through Meaningful Day Services, Inc. (MDS) have the advantage of serving clients in their homes and throughout the community. Home-based services provide the advantage of facilitating and improving communication skills with clients in their natural language settings. Speech/Language Pathologists (SLPs) can assess the skills and needs of each individual in their daily environments, and include therapy tools and techniques that are appropriate for that person's immediate and long term needs. Services can also be expanded to meet clients' communication needs in various community settings, or in an office setting when deemed appropriate.
Speech/Language Pathologists work with individuals who present a wide variety of disorders. Adults and children who have Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, stroke, swallowing disorders, and developmental delays are some who can benefit from communication therapies. An SLP can provide direct therapy to improve the speech and language skills of an individual; help determine the need for any augmentative or assistive communication device; and/or teach manual and gesture-based forms of communication, depending on the client's needs. The basic premise of communication therapy should always be that the happiness, dignity and respect of each individual are enhanced by the ability to communicate in some effective manner with the people in their family and community. The goal of MDS speech and language services is that each client be provided with and trained in optimal methods of communication.
An SLP can also provide consultation for inclusion of individuals in school, work, and community settings. It is often necessary to have specific communication support for such settings in order for the client to be successful. Ongoing coordination of speech/language services with other therapists and caregivers is also paramount for the individual to experience successful communication across all facets of their life. The MDS therapist is free to be involved in all settings.
Meaningful Day Services, Inc. offers Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, First Steps, Music Therapy, Recreational Therapy, Behavior Therapy, and Counseling for individuals with special needs, through private pay, and under Medicaid and Medicaid Waiver.
