Hello! I am Jessie Townsend, planner and facilitator of Meaningful Play groups J I am an Indiana University graduate with a B.A. in Psychology, a M.A. in Exceptional Students (non-teacher licensure special education), and 10 years of experience working in ABA therapy and direct support services. I have also been working part-time as a preschool assistant teacher for the past 2 years. My husband, our two boys, and I live in Floyds Knobs, IN. We love reading books, hiking, crafts, music, riding bikes, baseball, and making pizza together. My 3 year old attends Meaningful Play groups weekly and my 5 year old attends when he is not in school.
I firmly believe that integrated play with children of varying abilities at a young age is beneficial to both the child with disabilities and the child who is typically developing. Studies have shown that these relationships increase a typical child’s capacity for compassion, understanding of differences in individuals, and increases their leadership abilities. The goal of Meaningful Play groups is to provide a fun, safe, and educational drop-off service for children without a diagnosis who are family, friends, neighbors, or classmates of our ABA clients. We also welcome play group kiddos who have no personal connections to our ABA program. During Meaningful Play, we will have independent play, a story time, a science or building activity, snack time, a craft, several social play games, movement/sensory games, and free-time in the large motor play area.
Playgroups are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Children must be registered at least 48 hours before the day they would like to attend as space is limited. The cost is $20 per child per day.
